There doesn’t seem to be any morality issues on the following matters, but the church will intervene in more personal issues of health and wealth, insist on being pro-life, for instance, without thinking about what pro-life means in its entirety. I’m not suggesting a moral take on this, but I can’t help but be amused about the situations where the church decides to intervene and make screeching prohibitions, and just when they decide to step back and leave you to the hovering vultures.
The following are by Dr. Mercola on Aspartame, a poison that comes mainly from the sodas mentioned and artifical sweeteners.

Sweet Misery is the movie that Pepsi and Coca Cola don’t want you to see. Now at last the enlightening film is available on the Internet, in its entirety.
Stunning Evidence of Corporate Fraud and Manipulation
Aspartame’s approval by the FDA may be the most controversial of any food additive in history!
A close examination of the process by which the FDA approved aspartame illustrates how powerful corporations are influencing your once-trusted institutions. In “Sweet Misery” you’ll hear this incredible story, featuring:
Archival footage from G.D. Searle, the producer of aspartame, and federal officials demonstrating the amount of propaganda and “dirty tricks” big business used to push aspartame into the market, including deceptive safety studies.
Many heart-wrenching testimonials by aspartame victims, including one by a woman serving prison time for murdering her husband, who claims he actually died of aspartame toxicity.
Key dialogue with Arthur Evangelista, a former Food and Drug Administration investigator, who exposes how far major conglomerates went to legalize the use of aspartame.
Consumer Attorney Jim Turner’s candid report of his exchange with Donald Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld was the CEO of Searle, and at the same time, part of Reagan’s transition team when the FDA’s board of inquiry was overruled to allow the marketing of Aspartame as a food additive. Prior to this time, aspartame was unanimously rejected by the FDA.
A Crash Course in Aspartame Toxicity
Over the past three decades, aspartame has been associated with multiple neurotoxic, metabolic, allergenic, fetal and carcinogenic effects. Yet it remains a multi-million dollar business today.
Known to erode intelligence and disturb short-term memory, the components of this toxic chemical may lead to a wide variety of ailments.
The following list of health problems are now associated with aspartame consumption:
Brain tumors, including brain cancer: Aspartame can disturb the metabolism of amino acids, protein structure and metabolism, the integrity of nucleic acids, neuronal function and depolarization, and endocrine balance, ultimately leading to tumor growth and cancer. In 1981, an FDA statistician stated the brain tumor data on aspartame was “so worrisome” that he could not recommend approval of aspartame (NutraSweet).
Leukemia and lymphoma: Two major studies have now confirmed this risk.
Birth defects: A study funded by Monsanto to look at possible birth defects caused by aspartame was cut off after preliminary data revealed fetal damage.
A variety of diseases including diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, lupus, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue
Emotional disorders like depression[ii], panic attacks, bipolar disorder, and other mental symptoms[iii]: A study from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine concluded, “individuals with mood disorders are particularly sensitive to this artificial sweetener” and should not use it.
Epilepsy/seizures: Numerous studies indicate that aspartame makes epilepsy/seizures worse[iv]
Migraines: 18 million people suffer from migraines, and aspartame may be one of the biggest culprits. Headaches are the most common complaint of aspartame users.
Hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Blindness, blurred vision and other eye problems: More about this in the film “Sweet Misery”—take the time to watch it!
Impaired kidney function: A 2009 study found a two-fold increased risk of a decline in kidney function among women who drank two or more artificially sweetened beverages per day.
Weight gain: Aspartame actually causes you to consume MORE food by tricking your brain into “expecting” some calories, which aren’t forthcoming. This results in more cravings and more consumption after you eat or drink aspartame…bad news for your weight loss program!
If you aren’t familiar with all the potential health hazards you could be at risk for by consuming this deadly sweetener, “Sweet Misery” will indeed open your eyes to a biomedical genocide that has been covered up for far too long.

If you have experienced an adverse reaction to any aspartame product, call the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator in your area.
equal has bad effects on my family. merong yung “numbing”, and doctors can’t explain. where to report this ba dito? can we all sue? baka naman because pinas lang ito, they won’t give our bad medical cases much attention. as if we’re dispensable!
Phenylalanine is the only part of aspartame that the FDA requires drug and chemical companies to list. Aspartame has three parts and this is the legally required part of the molecule to be listed. The “whole” aspartame was legalized under suspicious conditions, but his part which is dangerous, has to be listed. So, if you see phenylalanine, it is 99% sure that it is from use of aspartame in that product.
Tienessee, you have to consult both doctors and lawyers for your questions, which may not be questions popularly asked yet in the Philippines.
Hi Intsik Siomai, I’m not a doctor, but based on my readings there are risks in consuming too much of phenylalanine. It’s the type of ingredient that still needs to be broken down through the digestive system, and when your digestive system fails, you absorb it in ways that damage you. So there are health conditions that make it more damaging such as “phenylketonuria” (PKU) because this condition makes it impossible for a person to digest phenylalanine:
Hi Doc, been such a long time since! I read it, and, as I’m suspecting, there could be lots of politics in the medical world, too, especially if it involves a lot of money. Personally, I don’t want to take the risk. MSG dehydrates me and gives me an after-meal headache. I could do without it. Aspartame is not a necessary ingredient, why defend it with tooth and nail? – The money.
I find less reason for those who claim it to be poisonous in this article to have any interest in the dough or shut up-money.
After reading this, I’m relieved that I never fell for any of those sugar substitutes. My rationale has always been that with sugar, I know what I’m getting – cavities and empty calories. I’m also hypersensitive to the “taste” of artificial sweetners. Yuck! But I have friends who will ingest any substance as long as it has “no calories.” No calories, but potentially a high price to pay health-wise. In the U.S., we eat so many processed foods, that I think it’s the gross accumulation of so many chemicals and additives that is scary. It’s like mixing prescription medication, not knowing how they’ll interact with each other.
Hi Jan! I was just reminded of a friend who married an American, and he wasn’t used to seeing a whole fish because everything is processed, sliced beyond recognition from their original fresh forms, so when he saw her eating a whole fish, he was shocked and his tummy turned upside down.
Another is medicine, Jan. Babies get too many (protective) shots too soon in their life, it caused a wave of autism cases in the US. I don’t have the full details on it, but upon discovery, something was done about it somehow. This trend reached some Filipinos, and a friend’s son had the case of autism, and it’s still taking years for full rehabilitation.
There is a relationship between Autism and Aspartame. The Senate is determining what correlates with Autism. For the Senate Hearing on Autism going on this month, it may be beneficial to know that along with Mercury and other contaminations in the environment, Aspartame (NutraSweet and Equal) has also been linked to Autism.
If you email me back and ask for the information I have, I can show you a chart that significantly matches Autism rates with Aspartame use rate. Europe has banned the use of Aspartame for pregnant and nursing women as well as children. The countries where Aspartame has been banned or never accepted, their Autism rate is only a small fraction of the U.S. rate. Since Aspartame has been approved in 1981, and placed in soft drinks in 1986, the Autism rate has skyrocketed. The Aspartame notes page explains just a few studies on how Aspartame has been linked with brain disorders.
Hi Dr. Ann, I’d appreciate that. Thank you very much. My friend’s son has autism (not in-born) due to the mercury content in baby shots, not aspartame, though. He is still recovering from it, and they say it takes years to be rehabilitated.
